We have only done one game and it was Halloween themed and our goal was to release a holiday themed game and spread it and publish it ourself. I think it worked out very good for branding the site and the game brings in quite a bit of traffic every day at this point. Definatley worth it but like earthwind said the game is step one but getting it out there is very hard and even on sites it has to get noticed on the sites. We got featured on a few kind of big sites and that helped us and of course we featured the game on our own site where it got almost 20,000 plays so far.

I've had lots of experience working with various languages, so I think I could make a game (maybe just a big ego), but I have no artistic talent. Do those of you who make games also do the artwork?

As for my flash experience, I followed a couple simple tutorials for making a ball bounce around the screen and for morphing text. Just basic stuff for familiarizing with some of the features. w3schools is awesome for that type of information.

You should make this a poll. To answer the Q, no I haven't really made a game. Well, actually I did make a puzzle game, but I didn't publish it anywhere, not even on any of my own sites. I didn't think it was good enough.

Or you can put ads in the game and pay the artist half the earnings but you have to convince them it will make money.

This thread got me eager to make another game so last night I partnered with a friend that owns other arcades. We both come up with an idea. He makes the graphics and I code and animate it. Then we each get to co-sponsor it.

the second link is not working. I think you need to post the public profile of it.

I played the game. It glitched on me. I killed the boss right as it went off the screen and nothing happened after that.

My brother always loved to draw when we were young and he does all the artwork. We both have played as musicians professionally so working the audio is the real fun part for us. Games seem to be a good way to bring in some consistent traffic and we are excited about trying to get more of them out there. I know alot of guys are into to traffic trading and so are we but I say if you got the time and resources building a catalog of games is a great help to your arcade over time ( We only got 1 but have the plans for 3 more ) some work done on 2 of them already.

I remember someone saying somewhere on a website that had flash tutorials (video) that the beauty of it is that you don't need to be an artist or good at drawing to make stuff that looks good in flash. He even had a picture of a hand drawn cartoon image he'd drawn and well compared to his flash work it was terrible.

The thing I would have to consider is the cost, at just shy of $700 I think it's an investment I'd only make using pure profits.

How does everyone here justify buying it? A part from the obvious of course like making lots of games.

Matmi makes all our own games and we make games for many sites including Miniclip etc.

The best way to learn to make a game is by reading online tutorials and buying some decent programming books. Start simple and gradually progress. Mochi and Newgrounds offer some great knowledge.
