how many visitors can a 100mb/s port handle?

i am looking into a dedicated server.

i see three speeds for bandwidth ports

10mb/s unlimited bandwidth!

100mb/s

and 1000mb/s

the unlimited bandwidth is tempting but i assume 10mb/s is too slow and people will get mad waiting that long to download games

how many visitors can i have with a 100mb/s

the 1000mb/s is $20 more.

I was running Mibbi on a dual with 1oo mbs and it did well. I recently went to a quad cause the dual was being worked hard, but the BW wasnt an issue.

Ask the provider f it is 100mbs both ways....

There is no such thing as "Unlimited", Everything has a limit. Its recommended to have limits so that you know what you can use and whats there for usage.

Think about it this way :

10mps = 3TB bandwidth

100mps=30TB bandwidth

But your on a shared port so you won't be able to use nearly that at a constant rate.

You also need to find out what the host company has for a link to the outside world. If they give you a 1 gb port on the server, and it's a dedicated server with loads of memory etc, but they connect to the outside world over a 56k modem, guess how useful your 1 gb port really is? Or if they are situated in tornado ally and keep going down all the time? Dig deeper than just price and port speed, find it all out.

"Unlimited" or "Unmetered" bandwidth means that you can use as much as you want. Meaning you have a 10mbps line and you share it with a certain amount of people and you can use as much bandwidth as you want, but you are sharing and it is only a 10 mbps line. Meaning if you get a 100mb/s line and it says "1000gigs/month" if you use over 1000 gigs in a month your service will be shut off. where if you get an unlimited connection your service can never be shut off. also limits mean very little because practically every hosting company overbooks by 300%.

Thanks sefy98, that helps out a lot. I am in the process of moving to dedicated and wanted to know if I should bother with unmetered or not. I guess not yet...
