Question .PNG Worth Converting To?

I have been told and know that .png images load a lot faster than .jpg and .gif images. I converted my site to a list of game thumbnails instead of just listing the games. This has resulted in a lot more pageviews and visits for me, but the load time is a lot slower. I was wandering if you guys think that it is worth converting all the .gif and .jpg thumbnails to .png. Would it be worth my time? (I have about 350 thumbnails I would need to convert)

seriously do you have to ASK everything ? like how to make a box, curve and review your site like 10x in a week? dont you think that too much? if you really want to learn do some search and if you really stuck then ask...really no one care about you or your site so STOP ASKING SILLY QUESTION.

and PNG is not load any faster then jpg and gif..

I'm no image expert, but aren't png files usually larger file size than jpg? If so, I would expect them to take longer. I used png's for my button bar because the gradient scale was significantly sharper doing so, but the file sizes are also double.

png's enable you to have a clear background that's the only reason to use them imo.

ignore douche bags! douche bags if you don't want to answer questions don't read threads with question marks!

I use all png's on a site of mine and any time your making custom thumbs I would use them they tend to be about 1kb smaller if your optimizing. this ads up for a page with high load times. The real question to ask your self is do you think it would be productive to convert 350 images?

I'm talking png-8, png-28 or what ever with alpha blending show gray in ie6 and are huge in file size

350 is nothing, i am in a process of converting 1600 thumbs for my new site, (124x94), in a photoshop, jpg, saved for web and optimized, around 3-5 kb each.

Cheers,

PNG files are larger, however are of better quality than jpeg images. I think jpegs load faster... however we have faster connections now days, so i think some png's can be handled quite well.

When converting to .png I would be creating custom thumbs for each.
