As a practical matter you use no follow for links you do not want followed. In this forum for instance. Your user name link is a nofollow thats to keep user profiles from indexed .. be it google or any other major search engine all of which have agreed to adopt and honor the use of the tag as of about 2 years ago.

Sites using a no follow or javascript for that matter for link exchanges though are just bad customers and I sugest staying clear of them for they know not what they do... or do they..

Actually in 2005 yahoo, google, and MSN said they would abide by the no follow. However the thread is a question of if these tags for all use and purposes stop juice from being passed. Every test that I have run says in practice things are contrary to what is written it simply is not the case. I suggest everyone take a shot and do your own split test and see what your results are. Indexing is not the same as Juice and there will always be differences in search engines no matter how much they agree because the fact is they are a business so they have to be unique. Same for CSS code and how it works as related to different browsers etc...

I suspect that big G has internal pagerank and external pagerank. No follow links would most likely be used for internal page rank but I think this would still affect other indexed pages external pagerank. Even though this statement would contradict what big G has told us but it makes sense. Why else would big G follow no follow links but not index those pages...

I'm not talking about priority of our web pages but some kind unseen pagerank internal only to big G.
