# of Users Online

Hey all, I have another good question for you.

The script I am using considers users online by activity within the last five minutes. Is this pretty much the standard? How about decreasing that time and using a client side script to handle a keep-alive strategy? Any thoughts?

I was originally wanting the data handled through my script and db, but then again, why? LOL.

I have wondered the point of showing # of users online. I mean does anyone think the users really care? Or do the players assume it's a popular site and that there is something worth staying for? maybe I should add like a few 0's to the end of the user count on my sites?

I don't think users pay attention to any of the stats. Users just want to kill time playing games and they don't care which site or what game for the most part. So they really couldn't care less about any of your sites stats.

Any users that are willing to join your site's membersip probably do like to see those type of stats. But the rest of the users don't care about it.

I use it for my own measure. I get excited when I see 50 users on. Soon I hope to get angry when I only see 50 users online ...heheh
