Default Adobe Announces They Will Be Killing Off Flash

Adobe has finally announced that they will be killing off Flash by December 31st of 2020

https://www.cnet.com/news/adobe-kill...inkId=40173594

This means it's officially time to start migrating to open technologies and to stop fighting against it.

Beat me to it, they'll stop updating and distributing their flash player by that date which is in 3 years time, plenty of prior notice for developers to make the tools to convert flash content over to HTML5 hopefully their will be a tool out there to do this to games not just animations.

Looking forward to it =D

Regards,
Antz

We can distributing Flash player by ourselves when that time, we can upload flash player install files on our servers, give users a Flash player download link on each game page of our sites to let users download and install it.

Wow, so much work was done while developing games for flash a few years back, guess thats the end of it, everything has to die at some point, nothing is forever, in this case flash.

Oh and for everyone that is thinking on downloading a tool of some sort that automatically recompiles .swf to javascript, good luck, i doubt there will be any kind of tool like that, first of all it can be done but from a flash (.fla source), when once compiled the actionscript gets somewhat obfuscated and impossible to automatically recompile without the re-coding by a developer or someone experienced. Second, most flash games are obfuscated with an obfuscation tool like proguard or something that scrambles code.

HTML5 and Unity Webgl will hopefully take over in a strong way in the coming years . Bye Bye flash. Life goes on.

Newgrounds are working on something which will help preserve older flash games swf files by embedding them into java type scripts for them to still be able to work and play.

As seen here.

So I think when it comes to the older flash files which the artists / creators have no .fla or source code for anymore can still have it preserved in it's original format but instead of a flash script coding it'll be embedded within a java type frame acting as if it's running all together still.

Will be interesting what tom's newgrounds team comes up with.

Regards,
Antz

This is really great news! After reading that snippet, it's likely something of the like will be created. How can we just abandon all these flash games? Something will be made that will allow the browser to load the games without the need of installing the player.
