Default Smartphone / tablet mobile arcades. Is there any market?

Well we all know flash future and soon html5 will take over when the browsers force us into this direction.

But is there really a market for html5-games and tablet/phone-gaming today? Are people logging in at websites with their smartphones and tablets to play? I cannot to be honest see this happening. They would download an app instead of playing on the actual website, right?

Please share your experiences and thoughts. What major sites do you know and do you know how they are doing?

I think the future of the game will be mobile applications.

If you look at this graph http://gs.statcounter.com/?PHPSESSID...-201507-201607 mobile browser share is at about 40% and growing.

From my experience running lagged.com, mobile traffic performs a lot better then web, and there are a lot of players who like staying in the browser versus downloading an app.

As a reminder the CMS that lagged is built on will be entering beta tomorrow, enter your email here for a free download: http://pub.lagged.com/

There is a market but the issue is 90% of mobile ready arcades that are responsive tend to not work well for mobile gamers. You almost need to deliver them a way to access the game in a "fullscreen mode". It does work quite well but don't make your site slow and annoying for them to navigate.

- You are absolutely right here. If i play a game on a tablet or smartphone i just look for a game in the app store. No way would i even consider going to a arcade for playing a game.
- Would i search for a game with Google on a smartphone or tablet....of course not...i use the search in the app store for that.

I see no way how simple HTML5 games could ever make up gaming experience available in app form for any player. It's just multiple times richer experience, and technically apps are like warp drive vs steam engine when comparing them with HTML5. Perhaps in specific niches or so, but ultimately - apps are most likely gonna win this.

Except for "real" WebGL, which is ultimately way more advanced than HTML5 anyway, but for the time being whole distribution concept that lived for years is more or less dead so no luck there either (hopefully at time being).

Also, I think (haven't done much but observed) that MOST profit in HTML5 lies for the distribution guys, as they in many cases enforce their ads in those games, so yeah...

I am saying, unfortunately, I fear one era we knew here is about to end.
