Hi,

You may or may not have seen this.

Guide to Running a Great Arcade Site.

I keep meaning to write a Part B to this.. Maybe I'll get around to it soon.

Good luck with your arcade!

I got a great script from ArcadeScript.com not long ago ,has high scores and all, very nicely put together and Kawing's support is great.

Traffic will come with hard work and time..build links and add unique content to games descriptions .Also add content to the home page. Start a blog and write about games that are on your site. Write articles and submit them to article directories like ezinesarticles and associatedcontent.com

Also try PPC to give your site a boost.

Something different?? check out as many arcade sites and find ideas they use sometimes that spark ideas then turn that idea into something unique

hope that helps a little.

Listen to these guys on talk arcade theres heaps of info that will help you out..

Other than being unethical and illegal I wouldn't chance running an unlicensed script on your site, in the eventuality that the owner finds out or a competitor squeals on you to the owner, the owner then has the following options open to him

a) report you to the se's and get you delisted
b) report you and you receive a ban on publishing rights.

and the worst one

c) you get banned, delisted and your forced to work for McDonalds.

Not to mention that most of the pirated scripts are older versions with some security holes in them. If money is a huge problem there are free scripts out there that work decently. But you can get decent deals on licensed scripts right now. onArcade is a fair price for all it's features, and comes with 1000 free games to get you started. Gss is also a decent buy acourding to the lates news I'm hearing.

The best advice is to just do it, and do it the best you can, right from the start. Don't cut corners or slack off on it. Plan it the best you can and then do it. Set it up, play with it promote it, make it different, make it yours. Expect to make mistakes, it's going to happen. Learn from them, the next time make it better, and the 3rd even better.

There is a load of info in this forum, do some reading, ask questions. There are a number in here that are more than willing to try and help.

What you ask is a very open ended question, people have written books on it and I don't think a single post can contain it all lol. Is there any specific questions or problems that you would like to address first?

Abdou

If cost is an issue have you thought about getting the agares script? its $20 ish.
Its lacking link exchange at the moment but the owner is currently working on adding this and a slew of features, some of which will be arcade firsts and will aid in site revenue generation.

There are also a number of free scripts to try out on your first attempt at an arcade. They have varying features. I will warn you now though that any money you spend on an arcade is going to take a while to get back, and hard work to get it. Arcades are not a get rich quick by sitting on you butt route. You can make some money, but it takes hard work and time. It might take a while just to get it to the point where it pays for the hosting even. That's part of why I do recomend starting with one of the free scripts on a first arcade. It gives you a little extra financial flexability to get the thing going. Once you figure out what works for you, and have a little extra money coming in from the first, then you can afford to try a second with a paid script. By that time you also know what features you want from a script and can better choose one that suits you.

For example, my own situtation. I've had problems with money the last year myself. I can not afford real high end hosting. I finaly found some hosting that stays up for most of the time but I needed a script that was easy on CPU resources but that I could afford. I managed to pick up an onArcade license without laying out the cash by earning it in a forum another way. The hosting cuts me off if my site goes over 4.5% of the CPU resources and only cost me $60 for a whole year. When money is a problem, like it is for people like me, you work with what you have until you figure things out and can start doing things better. It can take time and loads of effort to start to understand what it is you yourself need from the script. Me? I prefer to not lay out huge chunks of cash while I'm learning it if I can avoid it.
