I'm still looking for a new shared host supplier. I wanted one that offered Hsphere rather than cPanel to manage all my domains with but it's looking unlikely that that will happen. So, not having used cpanel before, I thought I'd ask the experts on here 2 questions:-
1. Does having add-on domains (i.e. domains pointing to sub-domains) affect search engine results? 2. Can you still have domain specific email accounts for all your add-on domains? Probably silly questions but if you don't know something.....you don't know it lol TIA Kev

you should ask me after all most my sites run of 1 site lol
1) if they target the correct keywords they can do some good i can assure you that for sure! 2) yes you can as in email there will be a part to add email accounts i just forward them all to one email so i can keep track on whats happening to every domain. But an expert would say that if its a shared then you'll have issues with search engine targeting but screw that i don't beleve in it and look at me? high and fly! |

None of us know much when we first start out, be it with owning websites, driving a car, or as in this case a new web managment system. 1) If they are set up as add on domains, no. If they are parked domains, they probably won't be indesed, but the main domain still will. 2) Yes, so long as your hosting provider allows it. Most of them do.

Thanks for your replies guys! I guess I'd better start learning my way around cpanel
![]() Does the host have to set you up a new cpanel for each domain you add because I can't see anywhere to manage domains in there? Thanks again Kev

you'll see on the left side the amount of addon domains your aloud for example..
Addon domains 19/999 but if yours is at 0/0 you'll properly not have addon domains allowed on your hosting.. on the cpanel somewhere it would be named "addon domains" thats it there click on it then enter new domain name "example.com" then in Username/directory/subdomain Name: click it properly appear automatic if not then... enter example aka the domain name but not .com into that field. then Password: well enter a password then after that add domain! keep a note of the FTP Details when it appears properly like this ftp.example.com user name will be this username@example.com and the password is well what you entered as the password now for the email part go back to the cpanel main then click mail then click add/remove/manage accounts then scroll down to manage accounts on email you'll have a drop down menu on the 2nd box choose the addon domain NOT domain.example.com YES domain.com enter the details ect quota doesn't matter much so just skip it. after you done all this click create And thats how to setup a addon domain's email if your needing anymore help look me up for advice as i mainly know wtf im doing at most times lol.. Thanks for that Piczo, I think I see what you mean. It's so much simpler with Hsphere
![]() Just got to sign up with HostICan.Com now then I've around 20 domains to transfer (just 3 games related). It's such a pain having to download your sites from one host then upload them to the new one when they are large sites. Took 2 days to ftp the files back up the last time I switched servers on my current host. Thanks again, I know where you are now ![]() Kev

to upload a backup you took from your previous host may i suggest you do this for it. login to cpanel > click backups > Restore a Home Directory Backup if its just the site files alone but... As peter said it is a very good idea to upload your backup file to your hosting and state that you need it unpacked onto your new hosting account. |
