I want to discuss 2 things in this topic because recently something came up on this board and guys in this community can understand more about the dark side of trading (software for money or traffic for traffic ). OK with a little research you can see we have sold a little software in our day ranging from $30 - $100. Easy to validate this by the fact I have had 267 Unique Paypal payments 6 weeks ago ( They cache this ). Many of those Unique clients offered me residual income by purchasing more of my wares ( pardon the pond ) over 6 years So I am somewhere around 2000 transactions varying from 30 - $100 each. Also Those transactions constitute less than 30% of the transactions I have done online because I have used digital currencies as well such as
Egold, ebullion, alertpay, moneybookers,CCBill etc.. Doing the math you can see that I have sold a little software online ( 99% Desktop ). I have never had to bad of a problem with Piracy. Maybe I am lucky and or maybe some of the following can help anyone out a little. First thing is YOU WANT stop all of it just accept that. 1. Pricing: Look I mostly disagree with the logic behind unload's statements in that never ending thread but when you price your product to low it makes it easy for someone to acquire a copy and hack at it to share and show off to friends. Price it to high you get the same result with the rage against the machine crowd however if you can sell for a higher price then you have more money to go after them ( Costly persuit as dmm2020 pointed out). Depending on how many copies you sell and the niche you are in it will probably result in less sells to price it higher. My view on selling arcade scripts is that the less I sell the more valuable it is to everyone I sold it to so low sells does not bother me at all. I don't want to sell a lot of scripts at to low a price EVER. 2. Encryption: You don't have to encrypt everything and it want stop everyone but if you develop your own encryption and use a validator of some sort it will help. We have some TA desktop software that to this day when ever ANYONE has to install it again they must contact me for another Keycode because David wrote his own encryption ( lazy hackers like to get together and tag team on the popular ones because decypphering it results in a BULK of titles you have access to). We use certain things Unique to every install on the computer to validate the software lock keys. Also you can put an ID of some sort in the encryptions so even if someone is smart enough to get your stuff to work and resell it again as their own work in some fashion, then you can Decrypt and PROVE it was originally your work. 3. Added Value: Forget all the technical stuff make it worth more for someone to purchase your stuff legit. Example hack SAS spread copies what ever but you still will not get into the VIP group because I invite everyone based on a valid purchase. You can also offer older products you created as bonuses & offer to share services you might have to do anyway ( like we share our adsense filters ). Partly why I changed my model recently was to accomplish this. Also making a group brings up a community and there is NO DOUBT in my mind if diex, tcpjack or echanney saw someone running an SAS site outside of the group they would mention it. 4. Learn and check the hot spots: looking for your stuff online will mean more than a quick google search you kind of got to be a double agent. I really think some of that can help but it will take more thorough practices. Also I am of the opinion that XXX ( you know what ) is not in the wild much if at all and what this started over was 1 person scaling up a model to attack a large site ( that has maybe more to do with a site apearing large and advertising it than it does with with any low priced script ). I understand their need to brand them self as a large trader but come to the hood with a nice chain and you better be ready for anything. I think this link speaks to this issue some. http://www.arcadecamp.com ( You can see the beautiful link bait at the top ) Not hating on the site owner either but don't put your hand in the oven if you dont got good enough gloves on.
