Smile Highscore Addon ??

Hello Guys,

This is my first post to talk arcade but i was visiting this site(as guest) on various occasion. i did register to let you guys know that i am working on a New Arcade Script based on ASP.net technology.well why i choose ASP.net over PHP is because there are already many PHP scripts available in market and "Zero" scripts on ASP.Net/Microsoft technology, so i guess there is lot of potential in it.

I do have list of all features and have mind set to design my site in such a way that it is monetize as much as possible with a professional look but there is a small help i need from you guys.
while developing this project i am facing a small issue with HIGHSCORE addon.

if any of you guys who knows how to write this addon(in what ever programming langague) then please let me know so that i can work on it and help arcade community by introducing new script to all.

Thanks for your time.
Sohail Ali

i don't know,i don't think there is a demand for an arcade script that is asp.
most servers are linux.a lot of people that start an arcade never had a website before and don't even know what asp is.

also it will be harder to find someone that can code in asp.

i think there are plenty of coders who can write code in ASP. and As a developer i can assure you that ASP.net more easy in term of changes. any way thats not the point of my thread i actually need a logic or implementation tip for HIGH SCORE mod which i need to implement on my arcade script.

btw more scripts in different languages will eventually grow the arcade community in term of Server Platform choices amongst arcade owners.

I am gonna have to agree with this statement. PHP is the way most scripts are run.

Anything I have seen asp related have been for custom websites where as PHP is more for main stream scripts and most people can figure out PHP. If asp was that easy to figure out I am sure there would be a lot more scripts on the market.

Actually, I do believe that ASP is a tiny fraction easier to code in some respects. MS wrote it for people with little/no coding skills to be able to publish decent websites(or so goes the theory). There are a number of ASP scripts availible out there as well, even an arcade one if I remember correctly. The big reason that there are not(quite) as many ASP scripts out there as PHP is the platform: Linux is free so more hosting companies use/offer it than Windows which is very expensive. There is also the factor of security, for which MS products are legendary. This means that most people who are looking for ASP don't look for shared hosting, they either get dedicated or do it in house, and most are looking to run a more traditional business type website. And it usually is a bit more expensive than Linux hosting.

I must admit I like the idea, in fact I was going to port an arcade script to ASP about a year or two back. I found out that there is at least one already written, and figured out that there probably isn't as great a demand for arcades in ASP as for those in PHP.

To get back to your original question though. I would have to do some diggin, but if I remember correctly the games wirtten for the arcade add ons to vBulletin save high scores by passing specificly named variables back to index.php which then checks to see if they are indeed the high score for that game, and saves the info if it is. It's not too hard, if memory serves me right.

I would not want to be responsible for security on such a platform though that is exposed to the web. Nor would I want to be responsible for any cleanup costs, nor bandwidth overages costs if a "hacker" took over it and used it for such things as SPAM or attacks on other systems. Be careful. If you find decent cost hosting for IIS let me know? I have another type site I was hoping to set up and study myself, something that uses RSS.

@brendgrad

Yes i agree on what you have said about hosting and yes there is one ASP.net script there in market gamersden(DOT)com which is free and have very basic functions which i think nobody will use it. any ways there are PRO's and CON's in writting asp.net arcade script but i think if i write something really good then i surely will get some attention on my script by arcade community.

Coming back to my question, well i would be thankful to you if you provide me the link/code or somthing so that i can look in better .. between i dont own any hosting account right now but so far i think LUNARPages look fine to me it cost me $82 for a year with free domain after using a $50 OFF coupon. if you need that coupon PM me.

NOTE : ASP and ASP.net are 2 different programming models. i am working on ASP.net

ALL Suggestions are welcome.
Thank You
