Ok I got a site up, now what...

Hi Everyone,

I've managed to get my arcade portal up. www.vizplay.com .

But what do I do now?

, I'm a total noob at this, and I know I'm not going to make a 1000000 every day, its more of a hobby right now, but whats all this about "impressions" and "ad networks" and "maximising revenue" etc etc

Any advice for a nooby would be appreciated!

Hi:

Make 10000000 might be talking about impressions becase, I do not think there any Arcade site making this amount of money!!

You are not a total Noob at this give it some time

Impressions is how many times a page is seen by visitors or page loades

Ad networks is place where your banner or text ad is placed; across many websites. Samples goole, fun clicks etc..

Maximising your revenue means giving you the most money back for your investing. Invest $20 and make $60 is better than invest $20 and make $30 dollars back .

I hope I answered of all your questions correctly!!

I'm no expert by any means but by reading forums I guess some good suggestions would be;
You can buy banner impressions from places like funklicks.com , arcadebannerexchange.com , mibbi.com , arcadeaffiliate.com and many more. This is a very quick way to drive traffic to your arcade site. I do use them.

If you're trying to build up Page Rank, you might consider joining a few of the popular arcade topsites out there and add their code to your page. (hint: if you join topsites, do it before you spend money on banner exchanges. topsites usually rank sites higher that have more traffic. So you'll help your ranking)

Also blend your ads well within the tos of the advertisers, and consider what your users would like in your site that would make it worth spending time using. Again, I'm no expert...

Hi:

Impressions means how many times your ad is displayed in a site ex.. buy 2,000 impressions means is shown 2,000 times. I have increased the potential of my site to make maney by the following

Banner exchanges join as many as possible. My goal is to find 40 to join

Link exchanges - This one is a pain as some site owners do not add your link! What I do is remove their links after 3 weeks of not seen my link

Videos - I have increased my alexa ranking by 450% with it,. People love videos!!

AdEngage - Engaging Internet Advertising - Here is where most of my paid advertising come from. I find here the sites that gives me the best traffic for reasonable prices. AdBrite: The Internet's Ad Marketplace traffic is very low and expensive so I stop using them. Also, you can sell your adspace in adengage and adbrite.

To truly maximise your potential you have to know how to place your advertisments. Place your ads in the top of your home page where everyone and see it and in the bottom and the top of your games, this way every person who plays a game will see your advertising everytime they play a game

Search engine & directory submission- Submit your site to 100's of search engines and directorys there are companys that do this for as little as $5.00 per month. I submit every month becase some times some search engines drop you from their list. The most important S.E is google as many sites get their search results from them.

I had a gaming site that delt with the history of gaming and it was very rich in text so search spiders used this text as keywords to list my site

Word of mouth - Tell all your friends about your business. Every person with a computer is a potential customer.

Time - The longer your site name is on the web ;the more popular you will get so do not change it. My sites name is very long but I will not change it.. as google list a newly added pages within 2 days.

I'll start ya off link exchanges. Submit your arcade at Gamers GO - For all your arcade needs!

It will show up in the arcade list on the same site, and on Auntie Fondy's List Factory - You never know what you'll find!

Both are starting to pick up traffic, I'm not sure what the PR is doing. All they are are traffic exchange sites being nothing more than lists for people looking for arcades to play in.

I have gathered a growing list of such things as banner exchanges, topsites, etc, in the arcade resources section at Gamers GO - For all your arcade needs! where you can find sites to help promote it. You can find most of the same sites in here, I just tried to gather them all into one list best I can is all.

OK so many guys helped me so much let me try to offer some of what has worked for me. I am by no means and expert and when it comes to arcading a Noob. I have a goood bit of experience marketing online and as a webmaster though. Arcading is a Different world though and it seems to be a unique subculture that you really will have to take some time to get to learn. Here goes my 2 cents though.

1. Banner exchanges: I only have 4 on my site GuBug.com free online flash arcade games but I am lazy pay me no mine in general the more the better. Because you will take any traffic and because you get arcade traffic and these are guys willing to play games and stay on your site a second. Get in 8 - 12 and even that much is not over kill. Don't worry about guys leaving because early on like my friend Anthony said you want guys to leave either via an ad or via an exchange both ways help your business.

2. Social Bookmarking: We moded our script and included a lot of bookmarks under each game. I think a lot of guys over look this but over time a good bit of people can bookmark different games and describe them different ways getting you a nice bit of Search engine juice.

B: Stumble exchange or purchase: Go on Sites like DP or here I guess if it is OK and trade stumbles. Stumbleupon is the best social bookmarking site for generating traffic. Even if you pay for such a service it is a good investment. Not over night success but will pay off in the long run.

4. RSS: We added an RSS feed to our site and when ever we add now games the RSS is updated with that data. I then go and use the site Pingoat and send out a update. I also have registered with Several RSS search engines. OK this is not a fast quick lick for traffic but again over time becausse these engines have OK PR you will get some SERP Juice and some good traffic. You should Register with like 60 - 80 of the top RSS search engines. I will do the work for you if you don't know how but it takes me a while so there will be a small fee or there are other guys who will help. Another thing is once you get in about 60 - 80 RSS search engines and use Pingoat it will get you about 100 - 150 visitors as you update your site.

5. OK now we are on the subject of updating your site. Well update your site often with good games and content and this will make your site more sticky and bring it to life. That seems to help me some.

6. MONEY MONEY MONEY: You might add other services in addition to Google ads. I have found that Widgetbucks is doing very well on my site and when I added them my heading says ratings.

I know this is kind of shades of Grey but guys will click on a rating and not an ad and it makes your site seem like a site with less ads. You want clicks and you are in this for some sort of compensation for your hard work right? So my theory on marketing is if it gets me more clicks and I get away with it I am going to try. Also look for Clickbank things I have 2 on my site that don't even look like ads ( on the Homepage ). Everyone will not join but if 5000 clicks gets you a sale and that gets you $25 then guess what. You just made added an average of $5 per 1000 visitors to your arcades revenue. When you ECPM ( Earnings per 1000 visitors ) that is what that is all about. I know the letters make no sense but that is what they mean.

7. Branding: OK if you are not totally exhausted by now or tired of reading this. I been drinking before I typed this and man I talk a lot then but here we go. You got an arcade and I got an arcade and lots of other guys got one too. I hate to break the news to you but there has to be something to set you apart and brand your arcade. We happened to have a recording studio ( was our first home business ) so we made a silly cartoon animation with our Gubug character. This has been the single best branding experience I have had. Now if you can't do this for yourself pull out the check book and get some content ( your own game or animation ) and then syndicate it in different formats. Not only is our cartoon on our site but we put it in several formats and used usenet syndication around Halloween. Great traffic booster and good for Branding your site. PM us if you want pricing for us to do something like that for your site or again look around we are not the only game in town and I am not here to pitch just to share what has helped me.

8. Traffic: buy arcade traffic and invest in your business. Regardless of your budget just do what you can every month and reinvest in your business. I am confident over time this will pay out for me. However I was drinking before I wrote this LOL. Seriously I look at arcades like my other websites (except the Google click payouts suck ). You have to take time and just work at it.

9. Sitemaps: Make a google sitemap and get as many pages indexed as you can. The more pages in Google the better it will be and organic search engine traffic is good and cheap.

10. OK now we are talking google: Time for the shades of Grey again. Go find some $50 or $100 vouchers and put them to use on your site.

11. Read Read Read and put it to use: Long road ahead for you and me both but it can be done. I am finally getting about 1000 game plays a day from using these tips and my site is just about 6 weeks old. You put in the work it will pay off and you do multiple tips because every little bit helps.

PS: I just got to mention MYSPACE bulletins: Find some guys with friends and get some bulletins out and start a page of your own ( over time you will have your own friends and own some of your own traffic ). Think 5000 - 10000 bulletins posted multiple times on this one. I am trying to give you numbers like the ones I used. This is by no means a end all of what I have been doing but it will get you started and I am getting tired from typing LOL.

I'm actually a Flash game developer by trade so I'll probably put some of my own games on there eventually, as well as adding flash animations like you suggested.

I'll reply with a more in-depth reply once I've tried your ideas, and let you know how it all went.
