Default Why try selling a new arcade?

So why do people try to sell pretty much brand new arcades without any traffic. Usually I see in the sale that they are looking for a "reasonable offer". I hate to break it to you, but if your site is getting less than 500 uniques per day and your not offering hosting for a year or something, then $50 is a reasonable offer. Why?

Because any arcade can reach that number within a month or less starting off brand new. Basically your arcade has no value if it has no traffic.

I'm not really sure why people attempt to sell these sites expecting a decent sum for them. You should probably keep them for a while and try to build them up.

Wink

Because:
A) They think it is a huge money maker and it is easy to make something like Kongregate, Newgrounds or Armorgames.
B) They made it and now they are bored.
C) There a kid and dont know what they're doing.
D) They think any arcade is wortha few hundred dollars because they see them for thousands on website selling websites eg: Flippa i think it's called.
E) There a kid and dont know what they're doing.
F) All of the above

Well that is my thought on it. Not refering to anyone so kiddies please do not take offense.

Well, there are quite a few internet marketers and website designers that sale "turn-key" sites. Basically what the purchaser gets its a site that is set up and ready to be marketed. They usually state on the sale no traffic/revenue. These generally sale for less than $100 bucks and that's on the very high end. It may be a good option for someone who has no clue on what to do with an arcade script and template but wants an arcade that's ready to go.

The owners could also find out that maybe they are in over their heads or just do not have the time to baby a new arcade for a few months and just would rather sell it to re-coup money spent on the project. Who knows really. Other than this: Foxy your list is pretty much dead on. lol

It's defenetly something thats happening more and more and its sad cause its going to hurt the industry in the long run. But I do admit selling a site that was only 8 months old just for some quick cash, I did however get over $2700 for it which
had traffic 800 UV(search engine traffic) per day, and averaged $10 per day adsense.

Saying that I truley regreat selling the sites that I have sold, because I now know what I could have done with them to make even more money.

There are a lot of people out there who do this just for the quick buck, the thing that they don't realise is its going to reck future sales for medium size and large sized sites.

My advice to those who have new arcades and are thinking of selling, DONT. Hold on to your site for a good year or 2 and see what you can do with it. Its not really that hard to add games regularly, make a blog post, trade links and network with others.

Damn arcade sites have tought me so much and they are so fun to run. What other site out there lets ya tst cool online games out before ya put them on ya site.

Stay focused, learn and put in a little hard work and when your site is going strong and you can no longer keep up with it or feel the need to sell, then sell it. Watch that $50 turn into $5000 or more..

thats my 2c anyway.

lol, either they are kids or Adult but the main problem i think is that people think that it is quite easy to build arcade..

and another thing what i think can be a reason is the craze of having a arcade. they think that it really worth something.

There are so many script options in arcades it is quite easy to make a site in less than a day, full of games and ready to market. For awhile these turnkey sites where popular on the market, along with other niches. People are wising up (slightly) to the turn key market, and I have seen less garbage for sale lately.

The ones who make an arcade then immediately turn around and sell it, are either smarter than me, or dumber than me... I have yet to completely decide. I see some real garbage sites that sell for hundreds or thousands more than they are worth (arcadepeer comes to mind here) which leads me to believe that they are either false sales, or really gullible buyers.

I just dont have the stones to lie in my auctions and sell garbage as gold. So maybe I am the dumb one. At least I am honest.

@Texastorm, its great to have honest and helpfull people like you on the board, hopefully people can follow suit.

Either there are buyers out there who do not do their home work or they just don't have a clue. There are a lot of things they should take note of when buying a site but the main focus should be on revenue earned.
A lot of people use the old 10x monthly revenue as a standard depending on the sites age.

Fair enough if the site had some exlusive games or something like that but yeh it really makes you think what goes through the buyers head after seeing these sales lately.

What makes me laugh is I could put up a site in 30min to an hour and sell it for $100 virtually the next day..
