Default Banner Exchanges worth it?

I am farily new to the Arcade website world and I was wondering if joining banner exchanges are really worth it?

It seems to me that you are driving away traffic by those flashing banners in order to recieve 3 more later?

Is this the strategy that people are using. Ill give 1 to get 3 later? Does anyone else think it looks tacky with all of those flashing 100x100 and 125x125 banners on your sites?

Is it driving quality traffic for the people who are using banner exchanges for their arcades?

Let me know because I am currently looking for ways to market my arcade.

Regards,
Zack

Are you driving traffic away? Possible. Most open in a seperate window. You can also just purchase impressions and dont put up a banner. Then you wont drive traffic away....

Lets talk facts. Banner exchange is a low cost way to advertise. It does work out (for me) to be cheaper than Google.
Now lets look deeper. Take where you live. You are driving down the street and notice a sign for a new store. You might stop in, but will remeber it. You might even some day go to it or tell someone.
The net unless you have a TRUE type in DN....will get little to no traffic. The net is also like driving with blinders on. You need to drive traffic to your site. Banners are a great way to do this.
For me I am trying to get people to my site, not just to play....but hopefully click on and ad. Again, bannners work great for this and I really dont care if the person leaves....as long as they click an ad on the way out

Try a banner exchange site, most give away 10k in impressions to do it. The banner you use, make sure it is animated and not at a slow speed. Use images of current and popular games.
PM me if you would like to ask anything else. Welcome to the arcade world...

One thought is that, whether you have a high-quality unique arcade or a run-of-the-mill turnkey arcade, eventually your visitors are going to leave your site to see what other arcades are out there. So, they may choose an exit route on your site, if you have provided them with some. This could be one of your CPC ads, in which case you will get money in return, or this visitor could be one of many that don't click AdSense or YPN type links, so it may be another advertisement on your page, like an interesting banner link. Thus, you might as well capitalize on your exit traffic, because typically you are going to get 70% - 90% of that traffic back to you with fresh visitors ready for more clicking. (With FunKlicks we even have a few members who are getting over 100% return on their traffic sent, because they have excellent CTRs on both the publishing and advertiser sides.)

Another thought is that say you've got what you think is an awesome arcade. So good that you figure you just need people to see it once and they will be hooked and even tell their friends. In this case, even if you thought the exchange was tacky it could be considered a means to an end, to expose your site to new eyes.

And like RickyG said, if you've got the money, just advertise and you can skip the banner placement.

Yeah, all good points. I am still debating whether or not to sign up or not... I think I am going to test it out and just see what kind of traffic I get while I am doing the program..

FunKlicks.com - Arcade, Humor and Entertainment Banner Exchange

Try them. The owner of this forum also runs that banner exchange.

Mathematically banner exchanges only cost you money. Ie you can't earn a positive
return normally from the money spent. But they can drive visitors to get site noticed .

I totally disagree!

I make 4x what I spend in banners.

I've been very pleased with banner exchanges. I've tried adwords and yahoo search marketing a little and banner exchanges seem to perform better than those for my arcade site.

That's not true, at least if talking about a quality exchange.

There are two perspectives to consider... free participation and paid participation.

Joining an exchange for free obviously doesn't cost anything, and credits can be easily earned. With an exchange like FunKlicks, for example, clicks on a banner open in a new window, so you don't even actually lose the visitor. It's free advertising, only costs a 100x100 or 125x125 banner spot on your site.

And many arcade webmasters are making big money by purchasing advertising and traffic from quality exchanges. I've personally made money this way, and lots of others too. Now if you are using AdSense, it will be harder, but one of my advertisers told me they are making 140% return on their advertising investment with just AdSense, using YPN is an even bigger money maker, of course.
