Looking at freegamesonline.com as only one example. The case is the same for many other arcade sites.
Where do sites such as this get such large amounts of traffic? My site, for example, has an alexa rank of: 270k while fgo has an alexa rank of: 75k I just don't see where fgo is getting such high numbers, since many of the SEO statistics between our two site are similar. In order to properly show my wonder I'll just use some statistics: On the left is my site(playflasharcade.com) and on the right is freegamesonline.com Quote:
Now, as you can see most of these are pretty close (Live index is such a small number the difference isn't that big, same case with Google links) with the exception of Yahoo links. That is the only statistically large difference between the two sets of stats. Yahoo links for fgo mainly consist of a large amount of other arcade sites that are linking to fgo. Does this mean that in order to start really gaining traffic numbers one must simply spread a link to other arcades far and wide? Can it really be that simple? What am I doing wrong? Discuss. |

They must be more optimized for their targeted keywords.
A lot of people will type in "free games online" into google more than they would "Play Flash Arcade" If you look at google adwords: keywords tool freegamesonline - searched 14,800 freegamesonline com - 3,600 They also have the #1 spot for "free games online"; look at the stat: free games online - searched 3,350,000 a month |

There could be MANY MANY factors to having more traffic. That domain alone (10 years old) could gain A LOT of high search engine results. It actually takes a lot of work to gain traffic, but if you have money, you could use money to gain it very very quick.

You have to separate yourself from the pack and basically arcade sites are growing quick just like how I was in the blogging business. You have to get a unique theme now just to move higher. Another way is to plug traffic, which is also a very popular way to gain traffic. Just 100% hosting games and not plugging other sites isn't doing much anymore and is very difficult to grow.
Take PinkyArcade for example. It was created to host all the games, but I didn't know that hosting games won't gain me traffic since there are many more arcade portals out there. So I decided to work with a team and it has cost us thousands of dollars to rank high for a lot of keywords and to gain traffic. Well, technically it cost my team thousands of dollars since they're the ones with money ![]()
