yea, I wasn't too specific at first :P

Just think of it this way. If you're trying to make money, then you work on your site towards making money. If you're looking for high traffic, then you must work for the higher traffic. It's pretty difficult to do both things at once, but I personally like gaining the traffic first. After you get the traffic, you can start putting up ads or adding more ads to your site. It's an higher return to gain traffic first, but money does get in the way when you're developing.

Hmm. I definitely agree with you on the part about it being hard to do both. :P Hell, I've even developed two flash games myself to try and help boost my sites traffic:

http://www.playflasharcade.com/game/...rst-Light.html

http://www.playflasharcade.com/game/345/YoYo-Ball.html

But neither has really helped me in my pursuit of fame and fortune :P They both provided large but very short-lived boosts in visitors.

It's about quality links imo. I don't know much about it, but I had an experience with it. I had an anime wallpaper site. It wasn't getting traffic, I did link exchanges, advertise it, made custom wallpapers, and everything. I was receiving just 30-90 visitors a day. I ranked 106 in Google site. And the keyword was in the actual domain. MFA Anime Blogs outranked me as well.

In August I bought two $40 text links, from two Quality anime sites. Two days later my ranking sky rocketed, I was ranked third from my keyword.

After those links expired, I had enough visitors a day to do quality link exchanges. To maintain my first page rank.

freeonlinegames.com may have a lot of quality links from Blogs, News sites, gaming sites, and etc. Which can help it maintain its ranks.

Both sites may have close to the same amount of links, but there could be a huge difference in Quality Links.

It seems that quality links may work in conjunction with quality keyword rank? The high keyword ranking comes from a result of quality links? It also seems like a high quantity of links can help your site, but quality>quantity... Interesting...

I don't know where your getting your link details from, but you have no where near the same amount of links as FreeOnlineGames.com

Use Yahoo Site Explorer with the 'linkdomain' query and you'll see how many links they have.

Which tool did you use to find out your link details?

Heres there's and your link details

Free Online Games
Play Flash Arcade

I'll run that other site for you

EDIT:

FreeGamesOnline

They still actually have a decent amount of backlinks but not as big as FOG
