Page rank is pretty important. Miniclip's not ranked that well because it does not use the anchor text of "freegames", while net-games actively persues it. Domain name, pagerank, and anchor text are the most determining factors and all three are important.The fact that miniclip and addictinggames.com are ranked at all for "free games" without sites linking to it with that anchor test attests to the important of PageRank. They are there solely because of their high PR.

You can't say "pagerank does not matter that much" and "my site does not rank that well" when you have a PR of Zero.

The fact that you have a PR of Zero right now is probably part of the reason you don't rank that well.

I own those high PR sites, can you not guess what anchor text I'm going to link my site with?

You kind of contradict yourself, net-games has less PageRank, it's domain is pretty awful and kudos to them for ranking it so high in such a competitive niche, even the owner wishes he'd of done it all with a better domain, so the only thing left is anchor text which is as I was saying the 'main' factor of ranking.

Net-Games don't just pursue Free-Games, they rank high for other competitive terms such as 'Games' itself

But this is your test so you can point your sites links to this new domain with the anchor text 'free games' and we'll see where you rank.

Google can also pick up networks, so hosting your sites on one server is cost effective but easily detectable. I found that you host all yours on the same server, who knows what Google know.

Also my site is still a PR0 because we haven't been through a PageRank update yet with the site as it is. The domain has been parked for around 4 years previous to me buying it which won't help and we seem to be in the google 'sandbox'.

p.s. I'm really not trying to be hostile here, I'm not here to make enemies or anything like that quite the opposite just wanted to air my views as you have done yours, but with experience with forums I know things can be taken out of context

Well, net-games.com actually has "games" in its domain which Miniclip doesn't. Net-games asks a lot of sites to them using either "free games" or "free online games". Fortunately for them "games" is part of that anchor so they rank well for that too.

If you just search for games, the top results are addictinggames.com and games.com , both of which have 'games' in its domain name. Both also have a high PR of 7. Miniclip ranks afterward even though it has a higer PR, because its anchor text or domain name has "games" in the title.

I've been doing this for years, and I've noticed that having the keyword as part of your URL does indeed help.

People speculate that having sites on the same server will cause google to decrease page importance but so far I haven't really seen any strong evidence of that.

The cross-linking penalty goes in the same category as buying paid links, links in certain places and other things like that. No one knows fully how google works, but I've noticed specific patterns.

It'll probably take me 2-3 months before I can see any results.
