Do Google Ads slow your performance?

Ok I know the title of this thread sounds like something you'd expect to find in your email spam folder but bear with me while I spin the yarn...

I've been experimenting with google ads recently, ad placement, size, graphic/text, colors etc

Generally speaking, I've noticed quite a few google ad server time outs, I've also noticed that some of my pages will hang for around 10 seconds before the ad server finally loads the ad and the rest of my site loads.

Is this something that happens to everyone else or have I just configured my ads like a numb nut?

What are the most viable ad network alternatives to Google ads both in terms of click through rates and speed of ad service?

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

I also noticed alot of timeouts when I was using Adsense. My account got disabled for making too much money though, so I switched over to AdToll and have only experienced one timeout in the past 7 days, and the pay rates are reasonable [I am getting $0.03 to $0.04 per click, and $0.20*2/week for one of my ad bookings].

Adtoll is okay... but i don't prefer it...

Have you considered adengage.com? they do pay great for clicks too and also easy to tweek code if done properly you can make a bundle!.

direct.rightmedia.com is good aswell as valueclickmedia.com

Put all your ads in iframes so they load independently of the site. Then if it hangs up, the rest of your site will still load.

As long as its not google adsense ads as they will ban you if they catch you iframing there ads. Its in the terms but you could ask staff from there for a more detailed ruleing...

My account got disabled for making too much money though, so I switched over to AdToll and have only experienced one timeout in the past 7 days, and the pay rates are reasonable [I am getting $0.03 to $0.04 per click, and $0.202/week for one of my ad bookings].
