Smile Review: Banner Exchange Performance According to Google Analytics

Hello all,

I am currently using these banner exchanges on my arcade sites ( Not in any particular orders)

1) gamesbanner.net
2) arcadebanners.com
3) adplz.com
4) funklicks.com
5) funnielinks.com
6) GameCetera.com
7) MoreGamers.com

Here are the result directly copied from Google Analytics
(I used the most recent stats - Mar 1 2008 - April 3 2008)

You be the judge!

Again not in any particular order

GamesBanner.net
Pages/Visit: 3.95
Avg.Time on Site: 3:57 min
Bounce Rate: 45%

ArcadeBanners.com
Pages/Visit: 1.41
Avg.Time on Site: 1:44 min
Bounce Rate: 79.71%

AdPlz.com AKA GamersBanner.com
Pages/Visit: 5.64
Avg.Time on Site: 6:37 min
Bounce Rate: 30.69%

FunKlicks.com
Pages/Visit: 4.91
Avg.Time on Site: 5:43 min
Bounce Rate: 35.52%

FunnieLinks.com
Pages/Visit: 6.10
Avg.Time on Site: 6:59 min
Bounce Rate: 26.58%

GameCetera.com
Pages/Visit: 5.17
Avg.Time on Site: 6:02 min
Bounce Rate: 29.60%

MoreGamers.com
Pages/Visit: 4.72
Avg.Time on Site: 4:16 min
Bounce Rate: 48.65%

Conclusion:

Seems like arcadebanners.com is the weakest link with 1.41 pages /visit and an incredible high bounce rate of nearly 80%.

Yes, I do own adplz.com and I am trying to be as unbiased as possible.

How about you guys? How do banner exchanges perform for you guys?

Regards,
Jack

Interesting review Jack..

Wow...arcadebanners...but anyway, I'm gonna pull up my analytics and check the stats for funklicks in a while...analytics is giving me some problems today.

I have used gamerbanner...now adplz, they seemed pretty good...but I lean heavily on cpc exchanges...currently just funklicks(that I know of).

Yesterday I used about 100,000 of my credits on moregamers, and used a top performing ad that worked well on every other network. It got 297 clicks out of the 100k impressions....

But anyway, looking forward to what other people have to share(I'll get mine up asap when analytics cooperates).

Garrett

They do okay for me, tho I am no expert, but when talking about "Bounce Rate" from the definition at Wikipedia I can hardly say it's the Banner Exchange that is at fault but more just the Visitors that have probably stumbled upon a site and it really wasn't what they were looking for...

From Wikipedia:
Bounce Rate (sometimes confused with Exit Rate)[1] is a term used in website traffic analysis.
A bounce occurs when a website visitor leaves a page or a site without visiting any other pages before a specified session-timeout occurs. There is no industry-standard minimum or maximum time by which a visitor must leave in order for a bounce to occur. Rather, this is determined by the session timeout of the analytics tracking software. A commonly used[citation needed] session timeout value is 30 minutes. In this case, if a visitor views a page and leaves his browser idle for 31 minutes, they will register as a bounce. If the visitor continues to navigate after this delay, a new session will occur and the last page they view before exiting or timing out again will result in another bounce.
The Bounce Rate for a single page is the number of visitors who enter the site at a page and leave within the specified timeout period without viewing another page, divided by the total number of visitors who entered the site at that page. In contrast, the Bounce Rate for a website is the number of web site visitors who visit only a single page of a website per session divided by the total number of website visits.
Bounce rates can be used to help determine the effectiveness or performance of an entry page. An entry page with a low bounce rate means that the page effectively causes visitors to view more pages and continue on deeper into the website. [2]
Google analytics specialist Avinash Kaushik has stated, "It is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying." [3]
A visitor can bounce by:
  • Closing an open window or tab
  • Typing a new URL
  • Clicking the "Back" button to leave the website
  • Session timeout
Bounce Rate

True...but if it's a continual trend off one banner exchange and not on the others...then you have to make a decision that the traffic from the high bounce rate exchange may be more than just visitors and focus on other exchanges.

Chances are that there are 3 different banner exchanges shown on a single site.

Please keep in mind that my avg bounce rate for the past month is 39.58

My sample size for each of the banner exchange is about

10000 visitors - 20000 visitors during the 34 days period

Let me ask you a question, if a visitor from an arcade exchange stumbled upon my arcade site (which I think is pretty good hehe) and it wasn't what the visitors were looking for.

Does that mean the arcade exchange didn't send quality targeted traffic to my site?

Just a thought.

Hi Garrett,

By CPC exchange do you mean click exchange?

If so, adplz.com has recently switched to click exchange + bonus impressions per click based on your CTR performance.

Sorry I didn't mean to go off-topic.. but a client is a client!

Regards,
Jack

haha indeed a client is a client! I'll look into it this evening Jack, I thank you for pointing that out

About that question you asked up there., I think yes it would be a lower quality banner exchange.

Because if you have a top notch arcade website, and you are using an arcade exchange...it would only be logical that something is wrong.

Regards,
Garrett

ps. I will apply soon to adplz, I like the bonus idea there

I guess that depends on what you define as "Quality"... Does that mean someone that will stick around and click on "Ads" or play games and make money for the site owner?...

I think no one can really predict whether a visitor will click or not click or play a game, this tends to get in the area of Magic I think... hehe

Humans are "Finicky" and what they do daily is based on how they feel at the time, at least I think so...

And no I'm not knocking your list of Stats, but people are just people and really it is hard to tell what they will do.. hehe

I agree to some extend as the actions of human/traffic are really unpredictable.

Seems like the visitors from arcadebanners.com doesn't feel like visiting my site

Jack
