I knew that, few know how to make a real one any more. I'm assuming forged blades not folded. But the fact that people were talking about "playing" with them suggested that they have the tang full length in the handle. Otherwise the blades would most likely break out of the handle. Last I heard this was a legal requirement for anything made in the last few decades, to keep people from using them for real. "Practice" swords can have the tang full length in the handle, but only if they have a "blade" that has no edge at all. That's why you see some that have an extremely blunt/rounded cutting edge on them: they have the tang full length in the handle to keep them from breaking so you can use them for practice in martial arts classes.
