Default G'day

Hi all,

I've been reading posts on TA and my first thoughts were how friendly members of this forum are to each other. Hopefully I don't upset anyone with too many silly questions.

I've had a gamesite online for about 3 years now (after viewing some of the impressive sites you folks own I'm too embarrassed to mention mine) and am looking for ideas on the best way to monetise it and obviously make it more attractive to my visitors.

Any work performed on my site is done by a fellow I met online some years ago as I have zero skills in any type of website management.

I have co-owned and moderated a forum for the last 6 years or so and that keeps me quite busy. Hats off to all admin, mods and members that keep this place running, i know all too well how much time and effort it takes.

I'm Australian so please don't hold that against me

Firstly, Welcome to the forums!

Most of us are friendly to eachother, although I can name a few that aint, but I'll let you find that out

Well, to get traffic you should try:-
- banner exchanges (funklicks, mibbi, gamersbanner, arcadebannerexchange.net, klixe)
- traffic trading (look for sites which say 1:1 traffic trade, and trade with them)
- link exchanges
- advertising

To make it look better, get more games, a good design, and don't have too many ads.

I have been to Australia, and smithscomputers from here is Australian (I think its him, anyway)

Yeah, I'm all too aware that from time to time you can get the odd person that's less than friendly, thanks for the heads up just the same.

My site has from memory 1,700 games is that an average kind of figure?

Thanks for the advice on banner exchanges and traffic trading, I've not ever looked into that before.

I only run adsense so hopefully I don't have too many ads. Adsense is a total waste of time I've found and will be removing it. The site is being re-designed and should be finished in the next week or so. I have had a couple of sites such as YoudaGames.com contact me and ask if I wanted to affiliate with them. I decided I would get rid of the adsense and try YoudaGames.com but have also spoken with GameDuell.co.uk and RealArcade.com are currently considering me. I'm not convinced my traffic is large enough or suitable enough to earn a great deal out of paid downloadable games or the skilled game type of affiliates.

My traffic is around 100,000 uniques a month. After viewing some of the stated traffic figures on TA for various sites, I'd guess I'm at the lower end. I think looking into banner exchanges etc, as you mentioned is a very good idea and something I should have done long ago.

I started a link exchange on my site about 6 months ago but that hasn't been all that successful with only about 120 links added. At the same time I added a free member sign up (after an initial 5 free credits) and currently have around 6,000 members, perhaps a few less.

I have been surprised by some members earning $2,000 a month with their sites. Not that I disbelieve, just I wish I could work out how.

Thanks for the welcome Ricky.

As mentioned the site is currently undergoing a major overhaul. I'm trying to find the best affiliate option to go with at this time so I can add whichever affilite/s into the design whilst it's in the build stage. It does look at this time it will be YoudaGames.com and I may also use some banners for affiliate sites such as gamesdownloadcenter.com

My site is Howler.com

Nice to meet you robbie. I think the main benefit of being an aussie and not living in England is the weather. I live in a sub-tropical area not far from the ocean and a estuary across the road. I can grab a rod from my garage and have a line in the water after a 5 minute walk, 6 pack in tow.

Hi archgames.

I was lucky enough to own domains such as FunnyGames.co.uk (around 400 daily uniques) and Tgames.com (around 1,000 daily uniques) I've since sold them, funnygames just recently. I used them and others I still own to kick start my site and as people bookmarked the site etc, I returned them to ppc. I have another 150,000 uniques a month pointed at ppc. If the site begins to make money with whichever affiliate I go with I may well point those uniques to my site.

I still have some names redirecting to my site, but not a lot of uniques are attached to them.
