Welcome Tom.

Hmmmmm you might even remember the old S-100 bus systems of years gone by then, the ones based on 8080 and z80 chips. Good to have somebody else around like that, RickyG and I have our hands full with these kids lol.

Welcome to the forums Tom.

LOL Is it just me or does the beginning of his post sound a lot like one of those Nigerian spam emails where they go on to say that they want to put it all in your name and you get a 50% cut in it. I was expecting to see words like "benefactor" and "inheritance" and "$25000000 doolars"

Howdy all,

Arcade Junky, brendgard, Keith: The Apple that I programmed on was my high school's. I had a buddy who had a TRS-80 a year or so before I got my first computer, a Vic-20, it actually had unlimited storage space, well as many cassette tapes as I could afford's memory anyway. It also had a 300 baud modem, for the young ones: in today's terms that is way slower than you can imagine, so slow that text transmitted slower than you can type, graphics were unheard of. My college career actually started in computer engineering and my first processor class was based on a book about the 8080. Do current students start with studying 64 bit, or more?, processors? arg!!

Fahd, I worked for PWC when we were Coopers&Lybrand and I worked for KPMG much more recently. They are great places to get experience and meet people but I wouldn't want to make a career of it. I have no intent to return but I didn't have an intent to return the first time until it happened.

hawkal, that's funny. I actually was fighting spammers before most knew what email was. Well, I guess actually before it actually existed for most. I complained about the first spam I got when Compuserve didn't even allow us to send or receive messages from those at other ISP's, what we had was more like a PM on the forum here. And our address was an obnoxiously long number with a comma in it! LOL, hadn't thought of that in years. I also spent years fighting spam as hobby in the 90's. Why didn't I spend that time developing a business on the internet instead?

ArcadeJunky, I wish it was Yasgur's! I actually made it to Yasgur's though, it was the coolest thing I have ever done in my life. I went there for the weekend of 8/15/94, the 25th reunion. When I left home I had the Woodstock CD set and no idea that more than 100 or so "originals" might be there at the stone memorial telling some stories because the planned concert had been canceled due to lack of sale of tickets. I finally turned off the CD and turned on the local radio when I was a couple hours out from Bethel and found out there were far more than 100 others who had the same idea as I had. I had just a great time with the 20,000+ (my estimate), it even appropriately showered on us for awhile.

I ended up sitting with some women from Ohio for the concert who were about my age, a little too young to have been at the original. We had a good view of the mud slide and a great view of the stage that we watched be built. The ground was really wet and the weather uncertain so I slept in the front seat of my car. I decided I had to leave early the next morning when I saw that if I had any chance of getting my Mustang Cobra up the five feet of mud embankment on the way out of the farmer's field that I had parked in, it was now or never, (I actually doubt that I would have made it out if I hadn't had mud bog racing experience). When I left, I still thought there was some truth to the rumor that the Stones, and some other big bands that I can't remember now, might show up that day to play. I am pretty sure the Stones were in NYC that weekend, from what I heard there anyway, so it seemed likely and it wasn't easy to leave. BUT Arlo Guthrie and Melanie had performed, even some of the songs I had been listening to on CD on the drive there, and like I said it was the coolest thing I ever did.

And one of the coolest things I have ever felt was when some guy, who looked like he was STILL at the original concert, said, "Welcome home" to me when I first got to the farmers field down the road from Yasgur's, in some way I really did feel like I was coming home there, it was cool.

High again,
Tom
