Dear all,
Hope you're all doing well and enjoying the summer. In an attempt to make my own summer a little more pleasurable, I'm trying to sell all my arcade assets, blog and all. I've got a portfolio of 3 superb arcade game sites and one arcade blog up for sale. To hell with sitepoint and digitalpoint, I'm going about this the old fashioned way: word of mouth. If you're interested in buying the portfolio or you know someone else who might be then please please direct them to the blog post here. Thanks for your support everyone. Would by humbled by some digg love or perhaps it's not worthy?? In any case take care and have an awesome summer! Andrew. |

6k is insane...
No revenue on any of them, etc.

Andrew I highly respect the amount of time and effort it took to make these sites look and feel the way they do. But a great looking site with no traffic and revenue is worth the same as an ugly site with no traffic and revenue. It's the harsh side of the business. That is why you will get comments flaming your price, even though you may have spent countless upon countless hours refining the look and feel of these sites, it's sad but no one cares. It is all about the money.
The flipside is if you have a site making good money, then people still don't want to pay you even a years profits. Brick and Mortar businesses fair better at prices of 2-10 times yearly revenue. I wish you the best, and I still say you are better off spending a little money on sitepoint and getting some higher end buyers. I just sold a 2 month old arcade website to a corporation in KY for a small profit, so I know it can be done. Good luck, We miss your outside-the-box style of looking at things around here. You could have gone a long ways sticking with it. |

Sitepoint will be a waste of $40 if that's going to be the starting price.
Brick and mortar businesses do not average 2-10 years. You might want to check that. Average in Canada right now is about 8-10 months revenue and used to be less but the economy has been going good with good interest rates so it's has gone up. Web sites generally have much lower overhead than brick and mortar but the average for proven 6 months revenue is usually 10-12 months. then give or take depending on length of proven revenue. end spiel..\

We must be talking two different numbers. I don't know of one brick an mortar company sold locally for 8-10 months net revenue. If so the new owner could buy the business for 8 months revenue, and then keep it for one year and make 33 percent profit.
I would love that. I think the number your talking about is gross revenue. In which case you are somewhat correct, but those numbers mainly pertain to small businesses. I was referring to net revenue. I probably should have specified. My bad lol. If Microsoft could have bought Yahoo for only 8-10 months net revenue, they would have jumped at the chance. In 2007 Yahoo averaged 160+ million net revenue a quarter. By those standards they could have offered 500 million. Microsoft's offer failed at something like 40 billion. Anyway I think we mean the same thing, just a different way. Last edited by Gamehopper : 07-02-2008 at 05:52 PM. |

There is not much to compare B&M to digital property ( Apples & Oranges ) although they are both fruit still almost entirely different. MR softy & Yahoo are not B&M and they are publicly traded and far from small biz. Quality of your work will matter in things like this. Solidgamer you are a value investor ( always crunching numbers ) only thing is past earnings can't show future gains even though they might be a good place to start looking. I have sold some songs with my brother that never earned a dime for me but I got 1K+ for our work. You got to find the right buyer at the right time but quality work has a value in an of itself to someone in a good position to capitalize on the work you have already done.
I do however have to agree with solidgamer that sitepoint might be worth it if you intend to get the highest bid possible for your work. Pricing starting at 6K might be somewhat priced outside the market right now. Even though there is a better market on sitepoint than DP or TA for domains this could be a bit high in just my observation. I respect all the work that you put into your sites Andrew and just my 2 cents entirely and nothing more but you might have to start at a price to get bidding going and let the market determine the value of your sites. I wish you the very best in your endeavors and I thought your blog was very good and wish you could have ztuck around arcades a bit longer. I think you might have been able to get things monetized more and over time score a good bit of cash out of this niche.Sometimes the race is not given to the swiftest but rather the one who endures. I for one miss your thought provocing topics around here quite a bit and still wish you would reconsider selling entirely.
