Well first off, if it is a standard Ardvark script, a lot of topsites count the number of times they serve up that picture conected with your site. If you host it, it counts zero hits from your site and your ranking on that topsite goes down. This also cn mean you get less traffic from that topsite as your page slips farther down the ranking. Some of them hve the settings to delete your website if they don't get hits for 2 weeks as well, so it might get you deleted if you host the banner yourself.
On some of them they count the number of clicks coming from your site instead of banner impressions. This may or may not cause the same problems listed above.
Second off, track how much traffic you get in return from the topsite. If you are sending loads to it, but getting zero back, you might want to just drop it anyway. Some are good to stay part of, some are not.
